First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo comprising sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, who hail from Enskede, a southern suburb of Stockholm. The teenaged siblings began composing songs in 2007, taking their name at random from an English dictionary.

First Aid Kit performed their hit song ”Emmylou”, directly inspired by Emmylou Harris, that moved the Laureate to tears. As a tribute to Stig ”Stikkan” Anderson, the founder of the prize, several Swedish artists and singers, Barbro Svensson, Tommy Körberg, Pelle Eriksson and Sanna Nielsen performed a medley with some of the songwriter’s biggest hits from his broad catalogue. Rather First Aid Kit’s perception of her is related to the aforementioned deal. Or more specifically, the Söderberg sisters idealize their relationship with the addressee to be similar to the one that Emmylou Harris had with another country musician, the late Gram Parsons (1946-1973).

There are very few places in the world outside the southern part of the United States where country music is the most popular musical genre, and I think I’m on pretty safe ground suggesting that Sweden probably First Aid Kit, rising singing duo and sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg were inspired by Emmylou and Gram’s musical tandem that they decided to write a song about them. It’s a beautiful tribute created by young artists to a now legendary musician in the history and her mentor Gram. It’s sad that he was gone too soon.
